Recipe

Here's your email-only recipe for the week.

This dessert goes by several names; I’ve seen it referred to as a caramel square, caramel slice, or caramel shortbread. In Scotland, it’s commonly referred to as millionaire’s shortbread, though it’s unclear exactly why or when the name became attached to it. Luckily, you don’t have to be a millionaire to make or enjoy it— you might, however, feel like you’ve won the lottery after tasting it.

Trivia Time

This week’s trivia question is:

Which infamous event in history occurred 717 years ago on Friday the 13th, contributing to the superstition surrounding the date?

Leave your answer in the comment section to be entered into this month’s trivia contest.

The answer to last week’s question:

Which type of yarn is made from flax plants’ long, strong fibers and is known for being cool and breathable? Linen!

Bonus question/answer for the email newsletter only:

Something is missing from today's Friday Finds Blog Post. Can you figure out what it is?

Don't forget, as an email newsletter subscriber, you receive bonus entries that are not available to regular readers!

Books

What are you reading this week? Here is a suggestion for one I think I will read soon.

With her remarkable insight into the human condition and silences that contain multitudes, Elizabeth Strout returns to the town of Crosby, Maine, and to her beloved cast of characters—Lucy Barton, Olive Kitteridge, Bob Burgess, and more—as they deal with a shocking crime in their midst, fall in love and yet choose to be apart, and grapple with the question, as Lucy Barton puts it, “What does anyone’s life mean?”

My Weekly Independent Author News

Elizabeth Pantley tells me that “Meditation and Mischief went live on September 12, 2024! (It’s a bit ahead of schedule to allow for early reviews. The official release date for book tours, etc., remains as September 30th.)”

Authors! Send me your announcements. I would love to share them!

Your Exclusive Craft Project

This kit comes with all you need to complete the project, or you can also buy the wood blanks if you have lots of supplies on hand!

A Bit of News

Reader, Welcome to Friday Finds for 11-08-2024. How are you today? I'm doing great...busy, but things are going well. I'm still deciding on changes I will be making on the website and to the newsletter for 2025. I am soliciting advice from my readers on several points. I plan to have a few polls to help me decide. But I could NOT face anything to do with polls and voting just yet. No matter your thoughts on the American election, we ALL need a break from that rhetoric! So let's relax and have...

Welcome to Friday Finds for 11-10-2024. Wow, what a week!! I’ve been out to breakfast with friends, Christmas shopping has begun, and I am still trying to find a replacement furnace. My article was published in Lou Kemp’s newsletter, and I hope to gain some traction from that endeavor. The BBNYA Semi-finalist tour is going great. Until December 4, a new post featuring a semi-finalist will be posted every day. Look for the hashtag #BBNYA2024 on ALL social media sites to follow along. The US...
